What ACCW is doing in El Salvador

ACCW continues to financially support the Shalom Children’s Home and School in El Salvador. This is a multifaceted mission program in and around the capital city of San Salvador, and includes a church, orphanage, school, feeding program and literature distribution outreach.

Iglesia Templo Piedras Vivas (Living Stones Temple) is a vibrant nondenominational church with over 500 people attending each service. It operates Shalom Children’s Home in Santo Tomas, which provides a beautiful home (formerly a presidential mansion) for 72 abandoned or orphaned boys and girls. They range in age from newborns to 18 and receive shelter, food, clothing, medical care, education and life skills training in a loving Christian environment. three days a week the resident teenagers prepare and serve a hot, nutritious meal for about 120 children of an impoverished community nearby.

The church also operates a Christian school, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, for children from the orphanage as well as from the surrounding community. Currently 350 students are enrolled in this acclaimed educational program. In addition to the usual government-approved curriculum, classes are offered in English language, computers, art, music, manual arts and swimming.

Planning for the future
An adjacent property was purchased in May 2005 to add a medical clinic which will serve the children from the orphanage and school as well as anyone in the Santo Tomas area. A two-story building is planned, with the clinic on the ground floor and classrooms on the opper level for in-service training for new physicians, nurses and medical specialists. future plans for adding other buildings include a home for the handicapped and a senior citizens’ residence.
